India Visa Photo Requirements for Singapore Applicants

The square photo Singaporeans upload for an Indian e-Visa, and the 2 × 2 inch print for paper visas lodged at BLS International.

Based on official sources · last checked October 2026

Singapore passport holders need an Indian e-Visa before they travel. The India visa photo is uploaded as a square JPEG (height and width equal) of 10 KB to 1 MB, showing your full face from the front with eyes open and no glasses, on a plain white or light-coloured background. Regular (paper) visas lodged at BLS International need a printed 2 × 2 inch colour photo on white.

The e-Visa limit is 1 MB, not 300 KB

Many websites quote a 300 KB limit for the e-Visa photo. That limit belongs to the regular visa form. The e-Visa form accepts JPEG photos from 10 KB up to 1 MB.

Indian e-Visa photo for Singaporeans

Singapore is on India's e-Visa list. Apply on the official Indian Visa Online website, where you upload your photo and a PDF of your passport bio page (10–300 KB). The High Commission of India in Singapore does not process e-Visas; they are handled by India's Ministry of Home Affairs. Your fingerprints and photo are captured again by immigration when you arrive in India.

Regular (paper) visa at BLS International

Foreign residents of Singapore, and anyone applying for a visa type not offered as an e-Visa, fill in the online form, upload a photo, then print the form and submit it in person at BLS International. Bring a recent 2 × 2 inch colour photo on a white background, taken within the last 6 months. No appointment is needed, and applicants aged 12 to 70 give biometrics at the centre.

Getting the square crop right

Start from a portrait photo with space around your head and shoulders, then crop it to a square with your head centred. Do not stretch a 35 × 45 mm Singapore passport photo into a square: it distorts your face.

Correct: Correct
Incorrect: Tinted glasses
Incorrect: Shadows on face
Incorrect: Head too large

Samples show pose, lighting and background. Crop your own photo to the India visa size.
