UK Visa and ETA Photo Requirements for Singapore Applicants

Singaporeans need a UK ETA, not a visa, for short visits. Here are the digital photo rules for the ETA and for UK visa applications made in Singapore.

Singapore passport holders can visit the UK for up to 6 months without a visa, but they need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before they travel. Since 25 February 2026, airlines refuse boarding without one. The UK ETA photo is digital: at least 600 × 750 pixels, JPEG, 50 KB to 6 MB, on a plain light-coloured background, with no glasses unless you have to wear them.

UK ETA photo: app or website

Apply in the UK ETA app or on GOV.UK. In the app you photograph your passport, the app scans your face to check you are a real person (applicants aged 10 and over), and you take a photo of your face; the app checks it and lets you retake it. On the website you upload a photo instead, and it must follow the digital photo rules above or your application may be delayed or rejected.

The ETA costs £20 and allows stays of up to 6 months per visit. Most decisions arrive within a day, but allow up to 3 working days.

UK visa photos in Singapore

If you need a UK visa, for example as a foreign resident of Singapore whose nationality requires one, you apply online and then attend a visa application centre run by VFS Global. You do not bring a printed photo: your fingerprints and photo are taken at the centre. Book through GOV.UK's find a visa application centre service. Some applicants, such as holders of EU, EEA and Swiss biometric passports, can use the UK Immigration: ID Check app instead of visiting a centre.
